A Unique Idea
The basic aim of the Very Sheltered Housing concept is simple - that is to enable retired people to retain their independence for the whole of their lives.
For more than 20 years, the Very Sheltered Housing model has been extremely successful in achieving this
The vast majority of Owners at the Courts do indeed retain their independence for almost the whole of their lives and spend significantly less time in hospital or nursing care than the average population of people of the same age.
Very Sheltered Housing is successful because it
differs from other, traditional forms of sheltered housing in three key respects:
- All the Courts are carefully designed so that you can get around easily even if you were to become confined to a wheelchair and even though this is rare, many Owners have mobility problems which are significantly eased by the design both of the communal areas and the private dwellings. .
- The levels of staffing and services available are much greater than you would find in traditional sheltered housing.
- The management of each Court is controlled by the Owners, for the Owners.
