About Bushmead Court

Bushmead Court is located in the Bushmead area of Luton with views of the Bedfordshire Downs. It is set in landscaped grounds and comprises 41 Apartments on 2 floors.

Opposite the Court are local shops including a small supermarket, chemist, hairdressers and newsagent. There is also a local church and thriving community centre and the local health centre is also situated only a short distance from the Court. Luton town centre with its comprehensive amenities is approximately 2 miles away and easily accessible by public transport.

Within the Court, visiting chiropody and hairdressing services are arranged along with a mobile library visits and delivery and collection of prescriptions. There is also a lively social scene at Bushmead Court for those who wish to participate.

Bushmead Court was built in 2002. The original leases were granted for 125 years but the actual period available will depend on the current date and whether any past owner has extended the lease.

Bushmead Court Facilities

The design of Bushmead Court combines style with ease of use and mobility, all floors are accessible by stairs or lift so that even those who need to use a wheelchair can live independently in any part of the building. Conveniently placed electrical sockets reduce the need to bend or overstretch and an emergency call system is installed with pull cords in every room of the development. In addition to the private apartments, there are a number of communal areas in the Court available for use by all Owners.

Garden

Bushmead Court possesses its own communal gardens, shrubs and planters throughout the courtyards and grounds, that belong to all the Owners and are maintained by a gardener and/or Owners themselves. A consultative gardening committee will be set up if sufficient Owners are willing to contribute to its work.

Communal Areas

Bushmead Court has a communal lounge that is the hub of many of its social activities. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are served on a daily basis together with weekly events from whist to keep fit. The Court Manager will be able to provide a copy of the monthly social programme. There is a television (not sure that all of the Courts have a TV yet) and dvd player as well as a stereo providing Owners with the opportunity to enjoy film, concerts and musical evenings. The Court also features a hobbies room where Owners can take part in a number of activities including board games, card games, art and craft. The hobbies room is also used for meetings of either the Court management company or local clubs and societies of which Owners are members.

Guest Suite

Visiting relatives or friends of Owners can be accommodated in our extremely comfortable, guest suite and provided with breakfast. Economically priced and benefiting from the Court’s advantageous proximity to local attractions and public transport, staying at Bushmead Court is a wonderful way to explore the local sights and sounds.

Meals

Bushmead Court has its own communal restaurant/dining room that provides a substantial meal every day, usually at lunchtime. Meals are not included in the service charge but are available at cost to all Owners. Meals will be taken on a tray to anyone who has requested one and is too unwell to leave their apartment. Guests are always welcome and any special dietary requirements are catered for. Evening meals and themed dinners are regularly held at the Court and light suppers can be arranged if requested.

Laundry

As an alternative to Owners’ own laundry facilities, the Court has its own communal laundry room. It comes fully equipped with token-operated commercial washing and drying machines. The proceeds that come from use of the equipment belong collectively to the Owners’ funds. If desired, Owners’ washing can be done in the laundry by the Housekeeping Assistants, for which a charge will be made.

Housekeeping/Staffing

There are many more staff than are generally found in traditional sheltered housing. A Manager and team of Duty Managers work in shifts and somebody is always present, twenty-four hours a day. The monthly service charge covers the cost of external maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, one-and-a-half hours of domestic assistance per week per individual property, as well as an hour per property devoted to the cleaning of the communal areas.

Social Activities

There is a varied and highly active social program at Bushmead Court, that Owners are free to get involved with at any time.

Weekly activities include Scrabble tournaments, exercise classes and a prayer group. The Court also has its own fortnightly fellowship group, at which a variety of speakers and choirs participate and share their talents.

Every month there is a collective birthday party to celebrate any Owner birthdays together. There is a popular monthly quiz that is both friendly and competitive. Bushmead Court also hosts the occasional film night in its comfortable communal lounge.

The Court has its own periodical magazine called “The Bushmead Banner” that provides regular updates an all the news and events at the Court, as well articles written by the Owners.

Throughout the year buffet dinners and dinner parties are held to commemorate all sorts of special occasions. Bushmead Court is involved in the wider community too and hosts charity events such as Summer & Christmas fairs. A cloth sale is also held at the Court twice a year.
